Glad you found the time to visit the gannet colony at Muriwai. Had you seen black sand before? It’s ground up bsalt from offshore volcanoes. The interpretation boards name January as the breeding season but there were young of various ages from new borns to those flapping their wings practising for their first flight on our last visit…and that was in March 2010. We’ll be back again when we are in Auckland in January. If you come across a priest called Jim White please give him my regards.
